Porsche 930 1975-1989

A car with the name Porsche 930 and the Porsche 911-Turbo intra-Offer was gathered by Porsche from 1975 to 1989. Unlike most brand machines, in the model range the 930th did not have a predecessor.

Back in the late 1960s, the designers began experiments using turbocharged, and in 1972 the light saw the first prototype of the 911th series with such an engine. Initially, the purpose of the car was to participate in city (street) races, but then the company revised the model and decided to modernize it. So that she can compete with exclusive and expensive Ferrari and Lamborghini cars. The novelty has become a supporting platform for building Porsche 934 and Porsche 935 racing modifications.

At the very beginning of the project, Ferdinand Porsche left the company, and Ernst Furmann continued work on the “premium” car. He took up the adaptation of turbocharging technology for the three -liter power plant Carrera RS 3.0, which received the internal designation “Porsche 930”. As a result, the power of the improved motor exceeded the characteristics of the standard Carrera engine, reaching 260 horsepower. The power increase in Porsche 930 forced the developers to process the suspension, brakes and gearboxes. Instead of a five -speed transmission used by Carrera, they began to use four -speed manual transmission. For better adhesion to the road, wider wheels were installed. For greater stability, stabilization and better cooling of the engine in the back of the body, special spoilers of Whale-Tail were placed.

Public Prime Minister Porsche 930 took place in the fall of 1974 at a car dealership in Paris. In the spring of 1975, the company began sales in Europe, in 1976-exports to server America. In the European market, the model wore the designation “Turbo”, in the USA – “Turbo Carrera”.

The car was very fast, but made high demands on the professionalism of the driver. The posterior engine, a short wheelbase and a turbo engine led to excessive rotation of the machine, the control of which in such cases became only experienced drivers. In addition, high -speed riding Porsche 930 was possible only at high speeds.

In 1978, Porsche 930 survived the modernization. The power unit increased to 3.3 liters, the power reached 300 “horses”. The rear spoiler moved above, freeing up the place for the intercooler. The brake system was replaced by borrowing from Porsche 917.

In 1986, new 330-horsepower engines (for the United States-282-horsepower) began to install on Porsche 930, versions with the body of Targa and convertible. Three years later, in 1989, the issue of Porsche 930 stopped. The 964th model came to replace him.
