“Dead zones” for drivers no more?
Matematic scientist from America Andrew Hicks with his invention is theoretically ready to victory over the “dead zones”, or zones of not a complete review of the car. Widely used by motorists, the flat side of the rear view mirror does not provide the opportunity to accurately set the distance to the moving machine. In addition, everyone knows that it has not a fairly wide viewing field, which creates certain difficulties for the driver. For him, a car, moving a little from behind and from the side, is in the “dead zone”, we simply do not see. Schooling the expansion of the viewing field, the driver is forced to bend the mirror, which leads to a distortion of a real picture on the road, because the objects become larger or smaller, but in no case correspond to reality. The real picture of the road situation for the driver will be distorted.
Andrew Hicks created a lateral rear view mirror for the car, which is 45 degrees. The angle of viewing of the mirror currently used in road transport is 17 degrees, that is, the overview angle of the novelty is 2-3 times higher than the indicators of now operating mirrors. In this case, the picture is obtained with minimal distortions. The scientist – the mathematician achieved such results in the following way, compiled the surface of the mirror from a huge set of small surfaces, each of which was calculated and turned at a certain angle of the reflecting surface. Together, they reproduce a picture with a wide review and small distortions that are not noticeable to the eyes, curved or straight lines remain curved or straight, and not what others.
The scientist has already received a patent for his invention useful for the entire automobile world.
Suddenly, Andrew Hicks became the first enemy of the income of those companies that sell large automobile plants electronic devices control over the road with “blind zones” and a high price. No matter how to lose income, these companies are forced to prohibit the ban on the introduction of new products into production. The introduction of such a useful novelty also encountered bureaucratic obstacles. According to the current American laws, a serial production car must be equipped, from the driver’s side, a flat rear -view mirror.
Due to these restrictive standards, the Hicks Mirror cannot yet be used by drivers of cars purchased in the United States. A scientist can help, which has developed in his favor, public opinion or a rich sponsor. The public will need a certain period for the perception and assessment of the “revolutionary” new. Further, lawmakers also need a certain period in order to check the usefulness of the new items, and only then adopt a new law in its favor.
The situation in other countries is not easier. Bureaucracy is not rare, for many reasons, restrains the implementation of technological innovations. Will the Hicks mirror be used in the production of cars, time will tell.
